In the Qatar 2022 World Cup, he was instrumental in holding Spain scoreless in their Round of 16 match and the Atlas Lions’ shock win over Europe’s powerhouses in the penalty shootout. Afterward, he was named man of the match.
He was also a key part of Morocco’s 1-0 victory over Portugal and helped them advance to the quarterfinals, their first appearance at a major tournament.
His impressive career has landed him nominated for the FIFA best goalkeeper award. He’s one of seven top candidates, including Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois and German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
