Quest App Launcher and KeyMapper
Quest App Launcher and Key Mapper is a small app that allows you to launch and remap apps on the Oculus headset. The program is available in the “Unknown Sources” list.
In early 2021 Meta launched App Lab for Quest, which allows developers to distribute their games on the headset without going through the curation process. Since then, 1,457 games and apps have been added to App Lab, more than triple the number on the main Quest store.
Features
If you want to install apps and games that Meta doesn’t normally approve, SideQuest is the way to go. You can use it to sideload your favorite Android apps and games on the Oculus Quest 2 or the Quest Pro — just like you would an Android phone.
In addition to sideloading, you can also install APK files from the official SideQuest marketplace onto your Oculus Quest 2. That’s a great way to get games that aren’t available on the Quest store and add them to your library.
The quest app launcher and keymapper allow you to easily remap the keys on your keyboard. For example, you can remap Scroll Lock to a different key that will allow you to scroll the screen using your wrist.
You can even remap your keyboard’s shortcuts so that you don’t have to constantly press the volume up and down buttons. That’s a huge convenience. Plus, you can also remap your home button to open the app launcher or the browser.
Installation
The installation process for the quest app launcher and keymapper is quite simple. Once installed, you can launch the QAL by long pressing either Volume UP or Volume DOWN (whichever ever you select) on your Oculus Touch controller.
However, if you are unfamiliar with sideloading or Quest content in general, it can be a bit confusing to get started. The best way to start is by locating an App Lab game in the Oculus Store or SideQuest (if you have that client installed already) and adding it to your library.
Afterwards, you can queue the installation to your Quest through the Oculus app or begin it manually inside the headset itself. The process is very similar to how you would install a regular Oculus Store app — just that App Lab content doesn’t get curated as strictly as Oculus Store apps do.
Meta’s App Lab gives you a convenient non-Store alternative to installing experimental VR content on your Quest, and provides a simpler and more reliable way to do so. It’s a great way to get unofficial games, and even demos for some of your favorite titles, without having to go through the hassle of sideloading them.

Troubleshooting
The quest app launcher and keymapper can be a little tricky to get right. The best way to get it working is to long press and hold either volume UP or DOWN (whichever ever you select) while pressing “Y” on the Oculus touch controller.
The Quest App Launcher has some fun and wacky features. For example, it will allow you to record the longest possible trigger shot. The best part is, it will only take about 5 seconds! The other fun feature is the “record trigger” button. It may be difficult to find on some devices, but it is definitely worth a try!
